2. Task
Perform regular monitoring the ionosphere, measure the Earth's magnetic field. To carry out the baseline survey of the ionosphere in particular:
+ To account and provide the ionospheric data in Vietnam
+ Basic research on the ionosphere: variation of the ionospheric parameters, state of the ionosphere, TEC, ionospheric disturbances, ionospheric scintillation…
+ Applied research for the purposes of communication: forecast the frequency in short-term, long-term; calculate the specific radio transmission through the ionosphere in and beyond the Vietnam region.
+ Study the effects of the ionosphere on the satellite signal in the region of Vietnam.
+ Training ofprofessionalresearchstaff.
3. History and development
Phuthuy Ionospheric Observatory formerly belonged to Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group. The Observatory was established and put into operation in 1962 with the purpose of monitoring changes in the ionosphere for the transmission of forecasts to ensure national security. In the framework of cooperation OSS of the socialist countries, Soviet aid to Vietnam an ionosonde system IRX and placed in Phuthuy Observatory from the first year of operation. In 1965 the Observatory is equipped with some quite modern equipment such as: Itinerant ionosonde system, the electromagnetic gaugerecorder and the glass to observes the solarsunspot. So, scope probetheionosphereis expanded, collect data on the variation of the geomagnetic field and the solar sunspot more favorable.

From June 1992 Phuthuy Ionospheric Observatory was transferred to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and was assigned to the Institute of Geophysics direct management. The attention ofthe leaders, in 1995 Observatory is equipped with the digital ionosonde IPS71. In 2006 Observatory is equipped with some receivers of satellite signals from cooperating with France, Japan. Thus the observation and study the ionosphere is expanded and developed.
The emit antenna: 18 m in height, operates from 1965 up to now |
The receiving antenna: 21 m in height, operates from 1965 up to now |
Until now, the last50 yearsestablished of Observatory (1962-2012), through many generations of leaders, Collective staffmemberof Observatory always strive, confirmed therole is one of the most important stations of a network of the national monitoringGeophysics, and there is a close cooperation with a network of international radio stations Geophysics. Contribute actively to the development of the country's scientific.

4. Achievement activities
- From its establishment, Observatory has conducted continuous mining exploration ionosphere for two targets: basic research on geophysics and applied research in communication, conducted the forecast frequency in short-term and long-term, calculate the specific radio transmission through the ionosphere in and beyond the Vietnam region. Join many scientific studies and published many papers on domestic and foreign journals.
- Currently, Phuthuy Ionospheric Observatory has collected about 50-year geomagnetic and ionospheric data. Provide short-wave propagation prediction information for interested parties.
